Purpose

The Dementia and Alzheimer’s Resource Committee is committed to improving the lives of those living with dementia and the lives of those that love and care for them. We achieve this mission by supporting education throughout our community, and distributing grant funding to provide caregiving relief and support.

  • Hosted the second annual Marcia Haynes Advocacy of the Year Awards in June, honoring Kathy Vertin of Thumbcoast Theaters, Shirley “Cricket” Trendy, Starpath Senior Day Care, and Marwood Nursing and Rehab, with special recognition of Anna Mathews and Kyle Schiewick. The event welcomed 142 attendees and raised $5,700.
  • Joined the St. Clair County Community Services Coordinating Body as anew member.
  • Completed a $25,000 respite care grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation.
  • Organized the Annual 5K Run/Walk at Keifer Park in September, with nearly 150 participants, raising more than $9,500.
  • Held two Socialize and Dance events at the Council on Aging attracting around 100 caregivers and their loved ones for a day of music and dance.
  • Awarded at $154,000 Southeast Michigan Exhale grant from the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Foundation and BCBS Foundation of Michigan to host regional expos in 2025
    and 2027, 1 of only 11 selected from 200 participants.
