A county free of unaddressed substance use concerns.

Vision

To provide a coordinated approach of all available community resources, public and private, to address and reduce substance use concerns through the promotion of prevention, treatment, and recovery.

Workgroup Goals

  • Increase accurate, relevant, and current local data to increase community awareness of and support informed decision-making to decrease the negative impact of substance use in St. Clair County.
  • Create a public awareness and education marketing campaign to promote awareness of substance use concerns, focusing on prevention, treatment, and recovery.
  • Identify, assess, and promote current resources and support for people concerned about substance use and recovery.

2024 Collaborative Accomplishment

Educational Outreach:

  • Conducted presentations to various organizations to increase awareness of the Workgroup’s mission and scope.

Overdose Fatality Review Team:

  • The St. Clair County (SCC) Overdose Fatality Review Team initiated reviews of local overdose deaths with guidance from the Michigan Public Health Institute (MPHI), helping to identify barriers and strategies to prevent future overdose fatalities.

Opioid Settlement Committee Representation:

  • Two Workgroup members joined SCC’s Opioid Settlement Committee to advocate for human services priorities, focusing on the effective use of opioid settlement funds for treatment, recovery, and prevention.

Strategic Alignment with CHIP:

  • Many substance use reduction strategies outlined in the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) align with the Workgroup’s goals, fostering collaboration and reducing redundancy between overlapping committees.

Annual Recovery Summit:

  • Hosted in September, this month-long event featured Workgroup members presenting on various topics related to substance use. Professionals attending earned continuing education credits, supporting their ongoing development.

2025 Meeting Calendar

Substance Use Prevention Treatment & Recovery meets the fourth Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 p.m. Meetings are be held at Blue Water Recovery Outreach Center (BWROC).
